Chelmsford to U23 'London'

OK, here's a confusing one. A friend has just been sold by NXEA a ticket to 'U23 London' with no Maltese Cross to get from Chelmsford to North Dulwich. Clearly U23 doesn't cover North Dulwich, but what's the signicance of the 'London' bit . Does this mean that the ticket is valid via Liverpool St, or is it (as I suspect) only valid to all U23 LUL stations that you get to by changing at Stratford? In other words, unless you are going to Canary Wharf,not a very useful ticket at all?

Tickets from National Rail stations to London Underground or DLR stations are issued to destination Ux LONDN where x indicates the Zones in which the ticket is valid for LU/DLR travel.

No A ticket to "Zone U23 London" is only valid to Underground or DLR stations not national rail stations (North Dulwich is served by Southern).

He needs a Chelmsford to North Dulwich ticket (or split tickets) or a travelcard.

Change SRA, change Mile End, then you're at Whitechapel, where you are on London Overground (is it part of LU, is it part of NR, does anyone know!) which is zone 2 or 3 apart from shoreditch.

London Overground is definitely and unequivocably part of National Rail.

It's certainly not part of LU, it is however managed by TfL. It is TfL who award the franchise ('concession') rather than the DfT.

Yorkie - are you familiar with the way it appears 'on the ground' though. Tube ticket prices, staff who don't think they are part of national rail, rail rep/diversions often loaded into TfL systems but not trust etc etc? That was the basis for my comment, rather than my not knowing the factual contractual position.

OK, thanks for clarifying that 'U23' actually includes the DLR. No doubt, the punters are just supposed to know that!

It certainly looks like the wrong ticket was sold here, so we'll take that up with NXEA. The journey sought was Chelmsford - North Dulwich, day return, with a Senior Railcard, a weak preference for going via Stratford and London Bridge rather than via Liverpool St.

The only route is +Any Permitted so it is fine to go into central London and change there.
