I'm not too good on the London area but I think the best bet would be a season ticket - however you won't get a railcard discount on this as they are already heavily discounted. You don't say how long you'll be doing the journey, are you doing it every day and for how many weeks?

Railcards are now valid before 10, i am certain

They're valid, but with a minimum fare of £12 which is more than the £9 undiscounted fare (the minimum fare is lifted over the summer, but will be back in place now).

South West Trains is certainly the most sensible way. You could get some combination of train and bus, but it would be silly. The only idea that might be worth investigating is having a paper return ticket Feltham-Egham (you'll need to jump on/off the train at feltham to touch in/out), then Oyster PAYG, travelling back at off-peak time somewhere-Feltham (use the tfl fare finder). Unlikely to make a difference, but the only idea I have.

If you travel in London a lot, there are reduced Oyster Season tickets for students for travelcard zones 1-6, if you had this, then you would only need to buy paper feltham-egham returns each day, but again this is also not cheap.

A seven day season ticket for Putney to Egham is £46; 1 month is £179.80. So to get value out of oneyou'd need to travel quite a lot, particularly as on days where you can afford to get in after 11 the cost drops to £4.75.

Now an Oyster card peak single from Putney Bridge to Heathrow terminal 5 would be £2.20, off-peak on your way back for £1.30. You can then get a bus from Terminal 5 to the university (see here), but I don't know how much that would cost. I can't see it being much less than a fiver; if it is then that route might be a little cheaper but would take a good hour and a half at least. Someone with more local knowledge might do better!

Alternatively, a season ticket Feltham-Egham is £24 for a week. Add your oyster fare between Putney and Feltham and that's slightly cheaper than four full price journeys a week, so if you're doing that many (or more) you might save a little

Have a look at 18+ Oyster cards for students on the TFL site

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/14312.aspx
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
If you get a 18+ student travelcard it costs £22-60 for zones 2-6 which gets you to Feltham. You can either then pay to go on to Egham by train or get off and get a bus to Staines (TFL bus - travelcards accepted), and then pay for the bus from Staines to Egham.

I don't know that bus so can't help with single/return prices but a day ticket is £5.60/weekly £22.

(any ticket that covers the GREY area in http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/southeast/berkshirethames/fares/tickets.pdf)

Hi, Dont know if this helps. I have another route. Not sure on prices though.

Fulham Bdy to Earls Court. District line.
Earls Court to Hatton cross. Piccadilly line.
203 bus from Hatton Cross(bus station outside tube) to Staines bus station.
You can use your Oyster card on the above journeys.

566 / 567 bus from Staines bus station to Egham.

You can see bus information on the Surrey County Council web site.

Journey time will be approx an hour and a half.

All the best Phil.

I'd stick to the 71 for this bit of the journey as there's no 566/7 from Staines between 0743 and 0917 (there's 3 71s in this time) - and a last bus at 1754.
