Cheapest ticket Leicester to Liverpool

Some advise please guys, cheapest ticket Leicester to Liverpool with a 16-24 Railcard returning same day. Happy to do split tickets and start/travel short. Journey planners are bringing up journeys via Birmingham with XC and LM on the outward (travelling ASAP after the restrictions are lifted). For the return journey at 20:48 with VT and XC changing at Nuneaton.

Am wondering if we can beat the Off Peak fare?

Leicester-Birkenhead is a little cheaper, but I'm sure there are useful splits out there.

Thanks! Yes, its a weekday.

I'm sure if anyone knows any cheaper splits then they'll say I checked a split at Nuneaton but its more expensive.

Try splitting at Stafford and Crewe using Virgin Only Off-Peak Day Returns between Stafford and Crewe and between Crewe and Liverpool - brings it down to £25.20. A single split at Nuneaton, using a London Midland Only Super Off-Peak Return between there and Liverpool brings it down to £21.85, but is a lot slower and really restricts you on times.

If you can restrict to specific trains, there are some options.

Get an Anytime/Off Peak Day return from Leicester to Nuneaton. From there, there's plenty of LM £6.25 Advances to Liverpool between 0700-1000. Returning, the 1948 & 2048 fast VT offers a £5.60 Advance to Nuneaton.

Another option for the outward is getting a XC only Advance from Leicester to Stafford at £3.85. These are available on the 0818-1000, 0918-1100 and 0948-1128. Then a separate Advance to Liverpool.
