cheapest ticket from Waterloo

Following on from my question in "infrastructure and stations", can anyone advise a rustic parsimonious northener as to the cheapest adult standard ticket that will allow access to the same platform as the 13.35 train to southampton on friday?

Yes they do exist, but TOCs don't like issuing them as they cost more to produce than they get from them!

Whilst not disputing that those tickets are several years old and not for Waterloo anyway

You will always get variations from station to station, or even from clerk to clerk.

But the rules haven't changed AFAIK.

Lots of stations don't issue them...

In my station, I was told the last time we tried to issue one it crashed all 5 ticket office computers simultaneously as it had not been set up properly (if true, it shows how bad the TIS is coded at least!), however now alas the button is greyed out.

If you want such a ticket for your friend to help you off the train then that's really unlikely to be necessary. They'll be fine asking at the gateline to be let through

Some stations may still sell platform tickets, but not all do. In some cases it is impossible, because the facility to sell them has been disabled in the TIS (on a company wide basis).
