Anyone know the cheapest return ticket from Euston - Didcot Parkway after 0930am or anytime weekend ? Website showing £24 with railcard hoping for cheaper alternative but no oyster alternatives please

Do you mean specifically when the diversions are happening later this year? You'd usually use Paddington for Didcot.

@dave87016. Is the £24 fare you mention an Off Peak Day Return and actually £23.95 or £24.15 depending on when it is you're planning on travelling (which might be before or after the upcoming railcard discount revision)?

South Hampstead to Didcot Parkway off-peak day return is £23.95 with a railcard. Pretty much the standard fare for stations just beyond Zone 1 to Didcot Parkway, priced by GWR. I don't think there is a cheaper split for the journey.

The trains in the diversions don't stop to set down until Swindon, so that won't be the reason. Maybe the passenger is genuinely starting at Euston and needs the underground transfer priced in.

Didcot is 53 miles from Paddington, which is comparable to travelling to Brighton or Colchester from London.

Thanks I didn’t realise it was such a distance - that’s not to bad a price considering . I plan on doing pubs near King’s Cross Friday on arrival or go Didcot then Saturday either Didcot parkway ( if I don’t go Friday ) a visit to the Prince Of Wales pub across road from station cracking pint and brilliant food when I frequented it pre covid or a travel card and go pubs round London

Sunday il be doing whichever I don’t do Saturday

However, there are no longer direct trains between Hayes & Harlington and Didcot Parkway, so a change at Slough, Maidenhead or Reading would be needed off the Elizabeth Line service.

If you need to pay £2.30 each way for Euston / Euston Square to Harrow (off-peak, with a railcard) and £1.75 each way for the bus, that's ~40 minutes longer for the sake of saving £2.

If the OP is doing any further travel around London on the day then I’d buy:

Kenton to London Zones 1-6 off peak day Travelcard £10.40
Boundary Zone 6 to Didcot Parkway off peak day return £13.90
Total £24.30

Only slightly more than a point-to-point ticket but gives unlimited travel on rail, underground and buses in zones 1-6.

Not if the passenger is staying in Kenton, which was noted in the further discussion. They will be able to get a bus from Kenton to Harrow and then the bus to Hayes & Harlington within the scope of the hopper fare.

Again thanks for your help people as Jonathon H said £23:95 return Kenton to Didcot distance being 53 miles that’s just Paddington to Didcot is good value , at first I thought the price was steep but put into that context it represents excellent value in my opinion , living in Lancashire rail fares here are incredibly expensive

There is a direct train from a Kenton to Paddington. No need to use Euston at all.
