Cheapest fare London-guildford

Hi,
I'm starting a new part-time job in september and I'm going to be travelling from Waterloo to London road (Guildford) and returning the same day 3 times a week. I'll be travelling at peak time (7am) on the way there. However I won't need to make the commute (hurrah!) during the school holidays. I can't work out what the cheapest way of travelling is (not sure if a season ticket will be suitable?). Basically, I was hoping someone on here would have a genius plan and save me lots of money (I can but hope!). Thanks in advance! M

Can't help on magical moneysaving I'm afraid, but I can confirm that a season ticket wouldn't save you any money.

An Anytime return will set you back £20.30, so three of them will be £60.90. A 7day season would be £72.80.

Do you have to travel via Waterloo?

Depending where your starting point is, it might be worth checking the cost splitting the ticket at Wimbledon or somewhere like that.

It's very unlikely that splitting or buying from further will save you money in this case. A 7 day season from London Road to London is £69.50, or from Guildford is £72.80 (the latter gives you more choice of trains for the extra £3 as you can travel via Guildford).

Do you need to travel within London? A ticket to "London Terminals" (as the above are) will allow you to travel to Waterloo, Victoria, Charing Cross, London Bridge, Blackfriars or City Thameslink (along with any station on the way to London). If you need to use the Tube at all, it will be cheaper to buy a Travelcard which includes your London travel as well as Guildford-London.

Weekly tickets work out more expensive than monthly. Furthermore, "monthly" tickets can be issued for any time between a month and a year, so if you know the date of the next school holiday, you can ask for a ticket to run until the last Friday before this date - that way you ensure you're not paying for travel if you don't need it (and that you don't have to buy daily tickets which work out much more expensive).
