What is the Cheapest Canterbury to London ticket over the bank holiday weekend. Most likely returning same day. Disabled persons railcard held. Advance tickets not suitable.

Thank you

Don't think you'll find anything cheaper than a Canterbury to London Terminals 'not HS1' Super Off-Peak Day Return, at £18.20 with the Railcard.

If Ashford would be an acceptable alternative starting station, a Super Off-Peak Day Return from there to London Terminals, route via Haywards Heath, is just £13.95 (albeit a very slow way of doing things!). But if you need to start in Canterbury, it's not worthwhile splitting and doing this, as a Canterbury to Ashford CDR is £6.05.

Obviously Advances could be cheaper, but you say this is unsuitable so I think that's going to be your cheapest option.

There are also National Express coaches which may be cheaper although probably slower.
And of course your ticket is only valid on the specified coach, so it's effectively an Advance - unless you fancy gambling on whether there'll be a seat available and reasonable 'walk-on' fare!

Thanks guys. Such a shame cheap weekend London day returns are not available like on the Brighton mainline.

I find South Eastern to be a good service, but it does seem expensive.

If there weren't such low weekend fares on the Brighton line, and the 'via Barnham' fares on Southern, the fares on Southeastern would seem consistent with those elsewhere. They are arguably cheaper than fares set by SWR.

The Brighton line fares strike me as what the railway should be aiming for, in terms of leisure travel.

I've tried a few options, the cheapest I can come up with is £17.30+ booking fee and that gets you back in Canterbury after midnight (no, thank you). Having a Disabled Persons Railcard narrows the gap.

To get a cheap deal a passenger would have to start in London and visit Canterbury, which appears to be less popular, I can't think why!
