Hi all,

Probably meeting up with a friend on Tuesday for a day in London. As part of th I day I want to suggest to him to go watch the planes at Heathrow. We'll probably going to Heathrow were catching one of the new 700s on Thameslink. What I am wondering is what is the esiest and cheapest way of going from Central London(probably st Pancras area) to Heathrow that doesn't involve spending almost an hour on the Picadilly line?

We'll both have travelcards.

Thanks in advance

It depends on how tight you are. You could go to Paddington and get the Heathrow Express or Connect and get some 360s logged for mileage. You could also get there by bus - get yourself to New Malden and board the X26 bus. It departs from a roundabout circa 550m south of the station.

Either way, have fun!

Do you want to AVOID the tube, or do you want to minimise time on the tube?

Heathrow Express (extra cost etc) from Paddington.
National Express bus from Victoria.
SW Trains service from Waterloo to Feltham then a bus, is is a 285?

Depends what you want to achieve really.

How about taking the SWT service from Waterloo to Feltham, which takes about 27-30 minutes on the faster trains, all air conditioned. From there you can take buses to Heathrow Airport. The 285 will take you to Terminals 2&3, the 490 will take you to Terminals 4 and 5. The 285 also uses double deckers so you will get some good views of the runway. Alternatively, if you want to go to Myrtle Avenue, take the H25 bus (make sure the bus destination shows "Hatton Cross"). Both 285/490 also go Hatton Cross so you could go do both.

285 is double decker, new 15 reg Volvos mainly, 490 and H25 both single decker. Myrtle Avenue is a great plane spotting location, from Hatton Cross you can also get a 203 towards Staines or a H26 towards Feltham Sparrow Farm. Enjoy your day, if you get a chance do the 15 Routemaster from Trafalgar Square to Tower Hill or vice versa, trip on DLR is a good idea.

Bus to Paddington, train to Hayes & Harlington, then bus again to the airport. I reckon that's the quickest way without using the tube, apart from Heathrow Express, which I won't take on principle :)

By the time the op does a train then a bus would they not just be quicker taking the tube ????

Granted an hour seems a long time but by time they say wait for busses and trains the tube runes ever 3 minutes to Heathrow

Agreed. The "cheapest and easiest" way from Central London to LHR is by Piccadilly Line. The alternatives are either stupidly expensive or even slower (and potentially more expensive anyway).

Heathrow Connect from Paddington is approx half the price of the express, every 30 months minutes & take approx 30 minutes. Get Hammersmth & City or Circle line from Kings Cross / St Pancreas.l, or bus, or 30 minute walk.
