I am having to do
Next Monday
Bury st Edmunds to Gerrard cross leaving about 6p.m.
Next Thursday
London to Birmingham leaving after 6pm
Next Friday
Birmingham to Burt st Edmunds
I am wondering if there's a cheap way to do this journey or if I will have to do single tickets

I haven't yet found a super-ticket that will cover your whole itinerary. But an economical option might be something along the following lines:

Advance: Bury St Edmunds to London Liverpool St (changing at Cambridge): £13 on the 1757 or £9 on the 1857

Day Single from Zone U1* Londn to Gerrards X: £11.90

Advance: Euston to Birmingham on the slower London Midland trains: £18 on e.g. the 1813 or 1816, £6 on the 1946 and later trains. Journey time about 1 hour longer than Virgin West Coast.

Advance: Birmingham to Bury St Ed on 1922 arriving 2252: £33.90

(You could travel on the 1922 or 1822 for slightly less by buying a Birmingham-Leicester Advance for £8.50, a Leicester-Ely Advance for £10.70, and an Ely-Bury St Ed day single for £9.90).

That's a total of no less than £56, which maybe gives a benchmark for testing other options. But as some of the suggestions are Advance "booked train only" tickets, you might need to buy sooner rather than later to get the quoted prices
