Watch video

A man repeatedly makes abusive hand gestures to a CCTV camera in Dudley, before being left red-faced after walking straight into a lamp post. Afterwards the man attempts to walk on as though nothing had happened. This video has been released by West Midlands police

Just goes to show that there is a distinct shortage of brain cell in some corners of society.

I dont blame him for giving the fingers, and I can see why kids wear hoods too.
They will soon want to know how many sheets of bog roll we are using.
But its ok, if youre doing nothing wrong, you've nothing to fear. hmmm

More professional behaviour from the very people with whom we entrust (or are sadly forced to entrust) our safety.

Is OP a redditor per chance?

I think it's amusing with a touch of unease about being able to have footage of oneself uploaded without permission

Modify the dress code (by winding back in time about 50 years) and adjust the hand gestures, and I've done very similar things in the past, only it's generally a result of someone else's idiotic behaviour (you know, driving through a puddle right next to you, that sort of thing) only I generally boot the lamp post very hard, as if it's its fault I hit it. Plenty of people have tempers, and occasionally let them show, and it runs through every part of society. You can't know the full circumstances, so you can't really judge.

You have my full permission to laugh at me if you like. Just this once, though.

It may be different where you are but up here the term Chav does not refer to everyone in the lowest echelons of society, but to people who make a lifestyle choice to behave in a certain way. It's the behaviour, not the status of the person, that results in the chav label.

Chavs get away with so much, it's only fair that we get the odd victory over them, and when we do, get to laugh about it.

Run that by me again?
I suspect Nick W was wondering on what pretext the police released the tape. I cannot see it showed a crime being committed, so it can't really be asking for help in identifying the chav. A lesss charitable view might be that it was released solely to make fun of the lad. Not the best approach to community relations, methinks.

Maybe they should fit the camera with a robotic arm, so it can reply with that gesture that involves curling the fingers to meet the thumb and moving the hand back and forth...

Sticking ones finger up at one could be construde as anti social behavior or public order so I don't see whats wrong with releasing the tape.

The footage was clearly taken in a public place, if it had not been the all sorts of DPA issues would have come into play.

I don't see how sticking one's finger up to a CCTV camera that nobody's probably watching anyway is either.
