Charter with destination: Sinfin North

I was at Wigan North Western Station last night travelling home and there was private charter calling at 2027. Its destination was Sinfin North.

Can anyone shed any light?

("Sinfin North" is often shown as a destination to deter "normal travellers" from boarding when the train is going to somewhere that could be of any interest to them - only enthusiasts would probably want to go to Sinfin North, which has no public passenger services, though, or indeed board the actual railtour.)

This was also the destination showing on the boards the other month for a railtour from Wigan. I was waiting for another train and ended up discussing with the enthuiasts which route they were taking to Sinfin, only to find out they were off to Dover (I think)!

There may be some other funny destinations they can put up to deter the "normals" from boarding an excursion. Once, in Gloucester they put our correct destination of Victoria on the board and a couple of people got on. They could not find any seats and were wandering up and down the train giving us funny looks in first dining. The best thing is if they manage to get "Excursion - special tickets only" or the like up on the board.

Thank you for the prompt reply and confirmation - it did have me puzzled at the time.

Just to make sure I remembered the name of the station I took a picture of the departure board, which hopefully is attached!

I was on the Dumfries to Dover charter and there was at least a couple of stations between Carlisle and Warrington with Sinfin North as our destination. Quite amusing really. Only station I can recall the information board correctly stating the destination , Dover Priory, was Dumfries, but on platform 2, we left from platform 1 :roll:

A friend informed us yesterday on board the Branch line Society Links and Loops Tracker charter that Sinfin North was the destination shown on platform monitors at Lancaster.
The actual destination/s were no less esoteric - Barton-on-Humber, Immingham Ore / Coal Terminal and Roxby Gullet !
Alas, once again, attempts to grice the Santon iron ore terminal were thwarted - at the 'eleventh hour' - the branch being blocked by a late running train and another one on the way.
The branch has been covered at least twice in the last twenty years - it has also been omitted on the day at least twice more !:-x

I have seen it at Runcorn. If I recall correctly, there were some private charter footexes running on that day.
