Interesting tour coming up on 1st October 2016 using a six car 'Hastings' DEMU - highlights include a visit to the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway using the new Network Rail main line connection.

Previous tours run by Charity Railtours have been well regarded so no reason to think that this one will be any different.

I would be interested, but sadly I'm up on the S&C line that day :(

Isn't the first time this year I've already had advances booked for other trips before railtours are announced.

Looks like it may be cancelled if enough people do not book it by the 15th September.

If this had been announced ages ago, I could have booked it off. As it falls on a Saturday (I hate having to work every Saturday!) I cannot do it. Just for once, without looking at the link, I can afford it but the date is no good to me. Shame as I need the Hastings unit and the Chinnor line!

Problem with some of those tour operators is they announce trips quite late notice. A lot of people (Kite and myself for two examples out of doubtlessly many) book trips several months in advance, and a lot of the population has to book weekends off to do trips. It's all fine and good having holiday time, but not all companies will allow you to book just one day off!

There's a limit to how far in advance a Tour company can plan. I think 3 months notice is rather generous in terms having had stuff confirmed with the Hastings Group, Network Rail and of course Chinnor.

But considering the next tour they are offering is in June next year (The Mayflower, which looks interesting as it covers a couple bits of red track, although I'm finding it hard to work out where "Channelsea South Jcn" is located (I'm guessing it will be somewhere near the North Jcn at Stratford used by freight exiting the NLL onto the GEML itself rather than into the bays)

(and the way back out after Liverpool Street via the curve which comes away before Hackney Downs to join the NLL).

Living in Milton Keynes, and very aware of Wolverton and its heritage, and longing to go "under the boards", I'm a natural for a trip like this - until I look at the details, and note that I need to be at Kensington Olympia for the 08:34 departure. But the MKC to Kensington Olympia service is run by Southern, and I've no trust in their timetable at the moment. So, I guess I'll video the train movements from terra firma as I did for "The Concrete Cows Special" some years ago.

LM (or Virgin) into Euston, then across to Kenny O via LU/LO?

With a lot of railtours with the timings you really got to live in a town that's one of the pickup points or stay overnight in a hotel or B&B in a town that's one of the pick up points, probably 2 days as a fair few seem to finish 22:00 or later

And that's why I've been on so few of them.

However, we enjoyed a stay in Liverpool some years ago so as to get the Lime Street to Holyhead steam special, but there's plenty to see and do in Liverpool, so it was well worth the time and hotel fees. Many other starting venues are much less attractive to me.

I'd have possibly gone on the 442 one had it been Poole-Waterloo and back, I hope they do a Poole-Waterloo one before all the 442s get withdrawn

I've had an email to advise that the trip has been cancelled.
They do have a tour using a Western next March which looks good.
