Watched an Indian film today - Jab Tak Hain Jaan.

It was nice to see Charing Cross Jubilee Line station in use in the film. The station looked to be in good order, though with few advertisements. The scenes included a Jubilee Line train announcing itself as being for Stanmore.

I believe that the filming was done earlier this year, or just possibly in 2011.

How often do trains run to this station?

When the jubilee extention was completed, services to charing x were stopped. Now the jubilee platforms are only used for filming, etc not for public use.

The platforms closed to regular passenger traffic in 1999 but have been maintained as reversing sidings for ECS and used for filming purposes.

The singer Alex Parks (remember her?) filmed a video in this station.

Incidentally, future plans could see the DLR extended from Bank to Charing Cross jubilee platforms, to give travellers from some parts of south west London direct access to the DLR. Hoever, this is very much well into the future. TfL told me that to do this would require enlargement of the existing tunnels, provision of new lifts, new escalators, and the question of the connection to the Jubilee at Green Park.

Such plans could be about 20-25 years away, and are not a major priority at the moment.

The platforms at Charing Cross have been used recently to reverse trains during engineering works, trains running empty from Green Park.
No further use is planned until after mid-March.

I believe they used it for the new Bond movie, although I haven't seen it so not certain. I seem to remember getting an internal bulletin about it.

Yes they were. It was branded as Temple iirc and the 96ts was seen as headed to Wimbledon.

Yep, disguised as a District train. Which station was portraying Embankment?

Would lifts have to be put in so that it's step free like the rest of the dlr

Would mean a lot of work, grandfather rights wouldn't help... Plus filmmakers wouldn't be too happy!

The tunnels run on for a way beyond Charing Cross and come to a point that widens out a bit at what we always used to think would have been the site of Aldwych Jubilee. Not sure if rusty railers still head down that far.

Somewhere, not in London
For the amount it would cost to re-build the JLC platforms and tunnels at Charring Cross, unless they are massive costs to build new tunnels and platforms, TfL makes way too much money off filming down there to convert it back to passenger use.

The Jubilee line was originally to be known as the Fleet line and would have run from Charing Cross under Fleet Street to Cannon Street, close the the current DLR Bank Station, then there were various proposals to route it East toward Dockland and/or South-east to Lewisham.

As the OP I would like to thank you all for your interesting replies. I will watch out for Charing Cross (in disguise or otherwise) in other films.

Watch out for it in the 1986 film The Fourth Protocol, where the late Anton Rodgers is on the tube, it was filmed at Charing Cross Jubilee, when it was still open!

And there would have been stations at Aldwych and Ludgate Circus (the latter of which would have connected with the proposed City Thameslink). The overrun tunnels actually get about three-quarters of the way to Aldwych.

If the DLR is extended along this route a station at City Thameslink is likely; Aldwych less so.

If the DLR does get extended from Bank into the city, then it will effectively be the Fleet Line phase 2 (Charing Cross - Lewisham via Ludgate Circus (City Thameslink)
It'd be nice for them to extend the DLR into the heart of London as Bank is ridiculously overcrowded and it's a bit of a waste IMO have a massive area of Charring Cross Disused. Those who argue that TfL get more money from leasing it for filming surely the long term economic benefits are better > more people into central London, more stations for people to use therefore more people using the system in turn more money

TfL should concentrate on keeping sending the DLR out East and extending depot facilities at Beckton for their new trains too before they think of going further into Westminster.

Yeah the interchange at Bank is not all that great but its not a major problem to do so either so they should spend it on going East.

But the more they go east, the busier Bank is going to get.

How? Surely poeople who live out East who you say would use the DLR to get there already get a train into Liv St then the central to Bank, which is going to be quicker anyway, so there would be the same amount of people would there not?

Unless you think that with the advent of an extension there will be loads more people from the East wanting to travel to Bank for some reason that they havent done before?

How many people board the Central line at Liverpool Street and travel to Bank? (It's quicker to walk.)

And if they did - and then swapped to using DLR - then they'd be arriving at different platform at Bank. What;s the maximum passenger-handling capacity of the DLR arrival platform compared to the Central line platform?
