Yet again at Gatwick yesterday I saw passengers holding printouts of email confirmations trying to get through the ticket barriers and being re-directed to the collection machines. So it's an ongoing problem.
I think part of the 'problem' is that some people don't know/realise there's a difference between Ticket on Departure and Print@Home.

Would it be easier to have a national Print@Home option rather then TOC specific. With TOD/Post remaining as options?

Personally, I would get rid of Print@Home and have a national mTicket and/or Smartcard instead.

Have you seen the problems with mtickets?! e.g. someone has their phone stolen, sells their phone, re-formats their phone, has a flat battery, etc...

or Smartcard instead.
Hmm, but you make it sound so easy

So you buy a ticket online, select to load it onto a Smartcard, you then have to queue at a machine at your origin, faff about loading the product onto your Smartcard (or they could do the TfL method of nominating a gateline to load the product onto - but what if you end up at a different gateline for some reason) and then what do you do if you have multiple products loaded onto your Smartcard, how does it know which product to use? If you have to touch in to activate the product, how does that work with "splits"? If your Smartcard is stolen, how much will the TOCs want to charge for you to move all the products you held on it onto a new one?

If you want to have a go at exploring these issues, please click here to create a new thread first ;)

Yeah, but Print@Home is no panacea - poor quality prints, can't be used for season tickets, etc. In theory, the validity of mTickets can be confirmed real-time by the guard texting control with the passenger's mobile number. But agreed, this deserves its own thread rather than hijacking this one.

It does not make it 100% clear the email is not a ticket! There is also a contradiction about using any card or only using the one used for payment.

My bolds below in a sample email of theirs:

Wierdly, my emails from Southern are different. I don't get the bit about them being delighted!! I must be flagged as a trouble maker!!
