The Channel 5 documentary "Going Loco" (televised around Nov 1999) on the unreliability of British passenger trains after privatisation, made reference to a complaints web site http://www.delayed.net run by a internet consultant Jason Finch.

Before that he had a sight http://www.gner.net (getting nowhere early or reliably).

Anyone know what happened to those sites?

Wow, haven’t seen that Url mentioned for a long, long while. Remember frequenting the site all the time when I first hooked up to the net. Also remember that the site just vanished one day after a period of media controversy, the details of which escape me but I have a hunch that it might have been a case of solicitor’s letters and handbags at Dawn (Nice girl, works down the bakers!!)

It was on delayed.net that I first read of a descriptive suggestion about an innovative new way of complaining to rail staff about the ensuing delays, perceived and real incompetence, bad service etc, etc.

Tongue in check, it was suggested that all principal station platforms be stocked with tables of fresh fish of varying size and girth. The idea being that they are used to slap railway employees around the chops when things go breasts up. For instance, if there’s no seat to sit on for just a few minutes during the journey home and this is not too much of an inconvenience, then complain by all means but only use a small Mackerel to administer one slap in a jovial and gentlemanly fashion. If however you’ve been forced to sit next to an open un-closable window, are an hour and a half late and your suits been ruined by grease and chewing gum on the seat and diesel soot chucked out by every passing Hampshire unit since you left Victoria, then you might in this case be considerably more peeved, grasp the biggest Haddock you can lay you hands on and slap the poor bloke to within an inch of his life!

I’m not saying for one moment that I approve of such methods but, close you eyes and try to see the lines of commuters, eagerly clutching fish of various sizes and that nice Mr. Souter waiting patently as he hands out copies of E-motion magazine, for the next Wing of Skate to hit him squarely in the fizog and you begin to get the really comedy value and potential of the suggestion!

So, as long as it’s either the Head of Notwork Fail or the Chief Honcho of any passing Bus company, pass me that nice bit of Cod could you????
