probably.

I'm afraid that it is impossible to give a more detailed answer without a more detailed question!
We don't know where you are going from, where you are going to, when you are going, or why you are asking the question. If you want to go to Colchester, you may need to buy another ticket depending on answers to the other questions.

Right - How long do you want in Colchester? Are you doing something there?

I think he just wants to avoid taking a replacement bus into London - which is what the journey planner is suggesting.

If you put in 'via Colchester', it says there is an 18:46, change at Colchester and Norwich.

Can see that you will have no problem whatsoever. Even if your ticket did not permit this the chances of seeing revenue protection is very very small between Witham & Colchester & then usually only Intercity services between there & Ipswich. The 170s on the through Liverpool St-Peterboroughs only have a conductor North of Ipswich.

It's not necessary to buy an open return, now renamed an Anytime Return, for this journey at weekends. The Anytime Return is expensive - £41 route Not London and £130 route + Any Permitted, which allows travel via London.

The £31.80 Off-Peak Return route Not London will meet your needs. It is valid on any train by that route on Saturdays and Sundays. It is also valid for break of journey at any intermediate station on both outward and return legs of the journey. The fare is reduced to £21 if you have a National Railcard.
