Changing TOCs

A qualified driver I know was told that if they wanted to get their foot in the door with a TOC closer to home, they should take up a depot driver position with them while waiting a main line one to come up. Is this good advice?

I would have thought it would be better to wait untill a qualified driver vacancy comes up at the other TOC unless they are that desperate to leave.

You should always check what level of competence the new TOCs depot drivers are trained to. Otherwise it could backfire severely.
