Changing between Bakerloo and Northern Line

Despite travelling on them regularly I have never worked out where is the best place to change between the Bakerloo and Northern Lines - Charing Cross has the longest distance between lines but is Embankment better than Waterloo and are there times its worth carrying on to Elephant & Castle. In all cases I am travelling beyond Kennington so sometimes I travel to Elephant to avoid changing twice and in the morning rush hour you are guaranteed a seat when travelling north.

I've gone for Embankment many times. Two escalators that aren't too long and no/very few stairs. Also not the busiest, with large circulating space between the two lines.
