Changing at Preston

I am changing trains at Preston next Wednesday changing from the Euston to Edinburgh service. This is due in at 09:51 but is regularly (virtually always from the dates I have checked) late arriving at Preston. I am changing onto the 10:04 Northern service to Barrow-in-Furness. The Virgin service is booked into platform 3 and the Northern is platform 5. Where is the best coach to get off the Pendolino from to change platforms if it becomes a quick connection?

Any reason why you can't do the same change at Lancaster instead?

Will definitely be the same platform there, rather than having to cross between platforms as at Preston.

In any case, the Barrow will have to follow the Virgin (with probably the TPE in between them), and Preston isn't so big that you can't make a connection in a couple of minutes.

The footbridge is further north than the subway by a couple of coach lengths.

Probably because the 10:04 is a 37

Less class 37 mileage plus my reservation is only as far as Preston on that leg of the journey.

And the footbridge is fairly narrow and can get congested at times - best avoided if you are in a hurry.

But at Lancaster you can see and hear the 37 coming in. For me that would be a plus.
