Video description:
A while back, a certain Geoff Marshall started an unfounded rumour that it is faster to use the escalators to switch lines at Green Park tube station, than to use the corridor route suggested by TfL.

Then we got thinking: what if the rumour was actually true? Only one way to find out...

(We should point out that during peak/busy time it's always better to follow the official TfL signage in stations as overcrowding can be an issue)

Also, some would say that the best way to change at Green Park would be to NOT change there at all! Just avoid it, and go a different way!

He finds that the escalators are marginally quicker!

Depends on the change I suppose. My morning Jubilee → Victoria has only one sensible route so it is of course signposted.

Though with one of the Jubilee escalators out of action starting this week, the opposite change has been rerouted, with one of the two curved tunnels (see attached image) fenced off. Didn't stop a cheeky lady in-the-know this morning going against the flow up the remaining open passage!

It depends on where you are on the train, and what lines you want. If at the west end of a Picc line train heading to the Victoria, then going via the ticket hall is quicker. If you're at the north end of a Vic line train then going via the "old subway" is quicker.

The really long "new subway" is for Picc to Jub interchange, and it again would depend on where you are on the platform, but I could walk it quicker than using the three escalators.

Maybe not always faster, but... A number of people changing at Green Park are arriving from Heathrow with luggage. In which case, the escalator route (npi) is a godsend!

I've always found it easier at Green Park to use the escalators whenever my change involves the Piccadilly line.

I once saved myself a 20 min wait at Finsbury Park by diving off the first Picc Line out of Heathrow on a Sunday service and dashing like a mad thing with my luggage, using the escalators, at Green Park to catch the first n/b Vic Line. Early frequencies on a Sunday service are pretty poor and I really didn't fancy the long wait.

If you have luggage and need to change at Kings Cross between Northern or Picc to Victoria then using escalators via the old Tube ticket hall is much more convenient than lifts and long corridors.
