Changing an advanced ticket

Hello, I tried contacting scotrail about this but no response.

I am due to travel on the 19:41 service from Glasgow Queen Street to Perth on Friday on an advanced ticket which I have already printed from the station. I am now considering getting the train an hour later due to some arrangements with friends.

It appears Scotrail charge a fee for exchanging advanced tickets but I'm

Do you mean an Advance ticket? (Fixed train, no refund, £10 to change the date/time unless purchased from CrossCountry in the last 7 days).

Or an Off Peak/Anytime ticket bought in advance? (Any train, £10 to refund or change date unless purchased from Thameslink).

It's an Advance ticket, so it's £10 to change the ticket? Doesn't seem to be fair given the fact I bought it for £6.35 in the first place

Unfortunately fairness doesn't come into it. Or maybe it does. If advance amendments were free how fair would that be on people buying flexible tickets? Either way its pretty irrelevant. If you need flexibility you need a flexible ticket. Or you can pay Ryanair style prices and get Ryanair style terms and conditions.

I assume that the OP bought the ticket with the benefit of a railcard discount. There are still £6.35 railcard-discounted Advances available for the 2042 from Glasgow Queen Street to Perth this Friday. The OP's cheapest option is simply to buy a new ticket for the 2042.

Possibly a long shot, but send a DM/Tweet to Scotrail over Twitter asking if they'd be so kind as to allow travel an hour later.

You'll most likely get the official response of 'no' but it's worth asking, given that similar informal arrangements exist (this is rare, however) on some trains down south towards East Anglia etc, and Scotrail used to have an official 'unofficial' () list of easements for passengers.

If no luck, just buy a new ticket or stick to the original plan.
