Hi

On Sunday I have a grand central ticket from York to kings cross for the 19:52 booked with redspottedhanky, I have collected the ticket.

Now I am looking at maybe leaving early, I have read I can pay £10 + plus the difference to travel on an earlier train, where and when I can do this? can do this on the day in york? also could I swap my ticket for an east coast train or would it have to be the earlier gc train?

Thanks

I'm assuming you have an Advance ticket with Booked Train Only/Mandatory Reservation.

You can change the ticket at a station, but must do so before your booked train is scheduled to leave

The origin, destination and Train Company or route shown on the ticket(s) must remain the same, so you can't take an East Coast train.

You will be required to pay an administration fee of £10, plus the difference between the price you paid for the ticket and the current price of the ticket you want to change to - so if you want to change to an Advance at a different time, it's better to do this as soon as possible, as the prices will go up as quotas sell out. If the ticket you are changing to is cheaper, you will not receive any refund of the difference4.

Just to reinforce a point, if you want to change to another Advance fare, you must do this before they sell out and no later than the day before travel. If you do it on the day of travel the change will be to a walk-up fare (Off-Peak or Anytime as appropriate) with the Admin fee, though it will still only be valid on Grand Central services.
