Anyone looking out of the window on FGW's services through Didcot from today, may notice some changes.

The three cooling towers of Didcot Power Station "A" next to the Bristol Main Line were blown up at 05.00 this morning and can no longer be seen; the other three cooling towers will follow in due course in a few weeks, finally followed by the very tall chimney stack.

Didcot "B" power station, is still open and generating, and not affected. It "sits" lower in the landscape, and is much less visible as a result.

There is a report and video on the BBC website of the demolition this morning.

The other three towers are scheduled for demolition next year Dave - luckily I'm living in Didcot over the summer and made the trip with about half the town up the local hills to view it. They kept us waiting for 2 hours but it was worth it to see the end of an era!
