Change to Virgin charity discount

Virgin have replaced their previous offer of off peak fares in peak times for charity workers with a new offer of 20% off advance peak and off-peak fares.

Virgin argues this makes it cheaper travelling off peak, charities are pointing out its now 4 or 5 times as expensive to travel peak and they have to order tickets in advance now.

Surely the clock is ticking down on the railcard easements if the charities are being hit by Virgin... in my opinion, a good thing. It frees up seats for those with a £200 SOR/FORs who have to stand because someone travelling with a YP Off peak return gets it for £40.

Virgin will want to collect as much revenue as possible during their last year of the franchise.

One has to wonder why charity workers are travelling in the peak, although I did work for a non-profit firm who were happy to pay £80 a fortnight to send two people across the country to negotiate the programming of new software they weren't even themselves writing...

That rather depends on the charity - and if it didn't (previously) cost any more why would they avoid it?
