Change of route and ticket type for one direction

I currently have an Inverness to Perth Off-Peak Day Return route via Aviemore.
Would it be possible to excess both the route and the ticket type for the return direction to an Inverness to Perth Off-Peak Return route Any Permitted?

You can probably* excess the ticket type first to an off-peak return route via Aviemore (but the ticket must still be in date) for £4.10, then excess the return leg only to route Any Permitted for £13.70. Assuming you can find a competent clerk or guard.

If the off-peak day return has expired it cannot be further excessed.

*You may get someone who argues that you cannot excess to an off-peak return if the ticket was issued in advance or before 0915, as the off-peak day return is valid from 0800 but the off-peak return is only valid from 0915.

Would I have to excess it before using the outward portion or could it be excessed after.

I also have an Off-Peak Day Return from Perth to Cupar.

If I have to leave Cupar after the last train that connects with a train to Inverness I would purchase a single from Cupar to Dundee and get a train from Cupar to Aberdeen changing at Dundee if necessary.
