Chair and Desk Reccomendations

Whilst I have some time off over Christmas, I have decided that I am going to reconfigure the area of my room that is currently home to my computer desk and chair, both of which are now somewhat ageing.

What I'd like to hear from anyone out there, is of any chairs or desks they would recommend that are good for long periods of usage? (I can confirm this will not just be for playing Train Simulator!)

Mesh chairs are out of the equation as I just cannot get on with them.

From personal experience, I can recommend two avenues to look at:

1) IKEA (stop sniggering at the back). We have a couple of IKEA desks and chairs and they're very comfortable, especially for the lower back. OK, so the desks won't last forever, but they're cheap enough for you to change your mind in a couple of years.

2) Ex-commerical office furniture - for longevity rather than good looks! I'm sure use of Google would find some sources of this. About 20 years (and two houses) ago we saved a huge beige desk from our then office and have used it at home. It's not pretty and it's very heavy but these things are built to take some abuse. And it's huge!
