[CH] SBB is modifying the Twindexx bogies

SBB has decided to retrofit the FV-Dosto trains manufactured by Alstom. The aim is to improve ride comfort and reliability. The FV-Dosto is already one of the most reliable trains in the fleet.

Alstom developed the technical solution in collaboration with SBB. The roll compensation system will be removed from all FV-Dosto trains, with some components being replaced or modified. The conversion of the fleet is expected to begin at the end of 2026. Savings in maintenance costs are expected to amount to CHF 40 million over the trains' service life.

Did the roll compensation ever get used? I know they deactivated the tilt in 2022. At the moment these don't ride as nice as a 460 hauled train.

Also do they go to 143mph anywhere in service? When I had an FV-Dosto they topped 110mph briefly but mostly stuck to 100mph.

The Gotthard base tunnel and the Ceneri base tunnel have a max. speed of 230 km/h, but I don't know whether the Twindexx sets go there.

The roll compensation is still active, but the higher speeds line are not used. Ride quality differs between units. Driving comfort is significantly better with WAKO switched on, as the software actively controls the actuators.

The maximum speed of the Twindexx is 200 km/h / 125mph.
