I haven't booked on the mini-tour as I wanted to have a few drinks in Cambridge. However due to a change in arrangements this end I'm now going to have to drive to Rawtenstall, so drinks are out. Over 4 hours in Cambridge now loom without any beer, so I wonder if the nice people at the CFPS will let me book on the mini-tour at the cheaper price?

I am sure those 'nice people' of the CFPS will let you just pay the £10..........!

Did you book with the members or non members bookings?

I know the members bookings went out on Sunday.

Members. Now you're starting to worry me.

Although TBF with Monday being a Bank Holiday sending it out Sunday is the same as sending it out yesterday.

Don't worry about it too much. We will have a record of your seat and can provide a replacement ticket if need be.

If it hasn't arrived by Friday then just see the steward on Saturday morning and explain. It will be sorted.

PM me if you are concerned

My only concern would be if the form never arrived in the first place......

Panic over. I e-mailed the nice lady (Jackie Crawford) at the CFPS who confirmed that my tickets had been sent. Phew! Now down to the serious business of looking forward to Saturday's bonanza!

The CFPS have finally got timings for this tour from Network Rail/Snail* (* delete as appropriate). We just need to back time them for stations on the ELR and I'll post them on here.

I think the ELR will somewhat quicker than Network rail with their timings!!!
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
We are still awaiting confirmed timings for the ELR stations but in the meantime the following are confirmed times for stations on Network Rail

Stockport 0832/2049
Chesterfield 0932/1940
Peterborough 1127/1744
Ely 1205/1702
Cambridge 1233/1628

Mini Tour to Stansted Airport (Up & Down Arrival / Departure Line) Cambridge dep 1236 out direct back via Bishop Stortford to Cambridge arr 1449

ELR timings will be posted as soon they confirm them but expect them to be approx 20 to 30 mins earlier than advertised on the outward and about 15 minutes later on the return journey.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
We now have departure times for the ELR stations:

Rawtenstall 0615

Ramsbottom 0630

Bury 0645

Heywood 0700

Return times are as advertised on the booking form

I think you will find the Railtour will not be allowed into Stansted Airport platforms. Through the tunnel and then head back. There far too pedantic about clag there. We get enough grief on XC there if we have a double set. We are not allowed more than a three car in platform 2 due to the signal position. The place is a joke...

Unfortunately the tour will not be going to Stansted as the 40 has suffered a Traction Motor problem and failed. The 67 is now working the tour. This must be particularly disappointing for all those who have worked hard to organise the train, from past experience I know how you must feel...

I'd said exactly the same thing much earlier in the thread but got shouted down.

Speaking to the station staff there this afternoon after the tour's no-show, the plan was to permit it to proceed as far as the roof and then the train would have been restarted from ahead of the signal. So it certainly wasn't going to go up to the blocks.

Your Turbos are fine under the roof provided they're shut down, but a dirty great Cl40 is almost guaranteed to have tripped the smoke detectors and caused all manner of transport grief across road, rail and air services.

I saw this tour yesterday at Peterborough fortunately I got no pic's as I was sitting on the Cl170 in Pl5 ready to head home - at first I was surprised but then realised what it was.

But O L Leigh, will 87015 come back and admit he was wrong?

My quote was "it'll go to the blocks unless the fire alarm men are made of jelly." As far as I can see that stood until the unfortunate failure yesterday, although there was some wibbling about them going into total jelly mode after the fire during the week.

It was timed to go to into a platform with the co-operation of NR and NXEA and a few service trains flexed. The alterations to allow this were sent to control to be implemented UCA as NR didn't tell us what hour it was going to run until too late to make downstream systems.

Very disappointing time yesterday, both for the tour participants, but particularly for the CFPS. 40145 was hellfire until it broke down though. It was still a pleasant day out TBF, but obviously it goes without saying that it was pretty subdued.

I'm sure Nedchester won't mind me posting this from the CFPS website at http://cfpsnews.wordpress.com/ :

As some may now know 40145 failed today approaching Grantham whilst working the CFPS’ East Lancs Railtour from Rawtenstall to Cambridge

At present it is suspected that the locomotive suffered a traction motor flashover. As a result the class 67 on the rear of the train pushed the train into Grantham where it ran round and worked the train to Cambridge arriving approximately 90 minutes late. The 67 worked the return trip to Rawtenstall with 55022 being provided to take the train onto the East Lancs Railway. Our thanks go to Martin Walker / Beaver Sports for providing 55022.

At present we are unsure of the extent of the damage to 40145 and therefore we are unable to confirm the remaining mainline commitments for 40145 until an examination has taken place.

For those who travelled on the tour we hope that the delay did not spoil your trip today and that you understand the reasons for the delay.

A further update will be post when known.

It wasn't me demanding a retraction.

In any case, the plan was as I outlined in my previous post. However it all became moot following the train's failure.

My commiserations. I had the pleasure of driving 40145 on an ELR Driver Experience Day last year. It was a truly memorable occasion.

Following Saturdays event it might be prudent to advise people of the ‘PayPal’ donation facility on the CFPS website.

If any of you wish to donate some money to the CFPS then why not make a PayPal donation to the D335 bogie appeal at:

http://www.cfps.co.uk/d335bogiefund.htm

Although this money will not directly go to 40145 it will mean that by donating to D335 then more money will be available from the pot to help repair 40145.

So go on drop us a few quid!!!

Not the best of years for preserved locos on the main line with 145 and D1015 now out of action. May have to ask for a refund off the BLS if they don't replace the 40 with some other decent motive power!

Definately - I will be retaining my booking on this tour now!

Is 55022 running on two engines these days? Unfortunately I've not had the time to follow it's progress for a while :(.
