Certifying 9F's to run to Whitby

I had a 9F on the main line.

An event to mark 150 years of the Tyne Valley line was being held at Hexham. A special train was therefore organised with something a bit different on the front:

92220 Newcastle - Hexham 1G40
31191 Stock shunt at Hexham 1G40

So comparison to the Kriegslok would mean a complete chassis re design basically. Only other suggestion is to ask Wolsyn and take one out there it their track could cope, but sounds a bit doubtful.

Thats a good shout, I remember years ago Black Prince broke some record or other. Also didn't a 8f do something around the time of the Rainhill 150 event on a mainline freight train.

Black Prince started a 2,178-ton train at a Foster Yeoman quarry in Somerset, UK, which is a record for steam in the UK.

I recall seeing Evening Star working the Scarborough Spa in the 80's.
Since then some track renewals may have an impact on any proposals.
I have listed a number of renewal sites along the SSE route undertaken between 1980 and 2000 that could contain raised checks.
Plain line renewals should not have any effect.

Mainly the sites with S + C or pointwork or Checkrail.
York - Bootham.
Scarborough Stn.
York Station
Church Fenton
Micklefield
Leeds
Harrogate

I suspect that one of the key reasons is that, whilst there might be a short term shortage of Whitby engines, in the longer term they have it covered. Two operational steam engines are currently Whitby fitted, 44806 and 926 Repton. (Apparently 45428 is now withdrawn.) I'm told 825 could be back in traffic in 2026, and that is mainline fitted. Also 75029 and 80135 currently under overhaul I think will run to Whitby. For the past few years there have only been two Whitby steam locomotives running anyway. Forgive me if any of this info isn't quite up to date as I haven't been to the nymr for a few years.

92220 iirc ran up and down at a York BREL open day . Had a cab ride on a big engine but just can't recall what! Might have just been cabbing in steam?
