It's not clear, but the text says yes.

  • Valid with ScotRail and Glasgow Underground only
  • Valid for any 3 out of 7 consecutive days travel.
  • Travel is valid anytime at the weekend. Monday to Friday, you can travel anytime except on services departing before 9.15am
Allows travel between the following stations (including intermediary stations):

  • Alloa
  • Bathgate
  • Dunblane
  • Edinburgh Waverley and Haymarket
  • Falkirk
  • Glasgow Central and Queen Street
  • Markinch
  • Newcraighall
  • North Berwick
Also allows unlimited travel on Glasgow Underground.
So according to that it is valid between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh Waverley!

But the map only shows two routes, both between Glasgow Queen St and Edinburgh Waverley, one via Croy and the other via the new Airdrie & Bathgate route. This is most odd, as at a minimum given that those routes are available, it would only be expected that via Cumbernauld would be included!

In the event of contradictions like this, then whatever interpretation is most favourable toward the customer should prevail.

The two maps are contradictory (but still up on their respective web sites) on more than just the shotts line route to Glasgow. The scotrail one omits the 'fife circle' route through Dunfermline and the national rail one omits the Glasgow - Edinburgh via Shotts line. If you interpret the text literally, then the few scotrail services between Glasgow and Edinburgh via Carstairs would also be valid, but both maps suggest not. Likewise Markinch -Edinburgh via Dunfermline is a reasonable route and the text suggests OK, but the scotrail map does not in theory allow this. Then via Cumbernauld - again a reasonable route and implied by the text, but not on the map. How very odd altogether. Of course if Glasgow - Cumbernauld - Falkirk G was valid, that would also mean Springburn - Glasgow Qn St Low Level was also valid....

Perhaps you are misreading the terms, but it is quite clear that travel between Springburn and Glasgow QS LL is NOT permitted, you MUST travel on a Falkirk Grahamston service only, the intermediate stations being those served by this service
I had this confirmed some time ago

I was being speculative in suggesting that, but having re-read the terms I can't see where it makes that clear? The conditions say....

Allows travel between the following stations (including intermediary stations):
Alloa
Bathgate
Dunblane
Edinburgh Waverley and Haymarket
Falkirk
Glasgow Central and Queen Street
Markinch
Newcraighall
North Berwick

and Springburn / Queen St is between Falkirk and Queen St, and has an alternative route via Bellgrove. Although some timetables refer separately to Queen St High level and Low level in ticket terms they are the same station. Extending the point could you get off a Shotts line train at Cambuslang and travel to Central Low Level via the Argyle line, getting off at any of the intermediate stations? Or even get off a Shotts line train at Holytown and travel via Hamilton (there are through trains) to Glasgow? Bear in mind an 'innocent' could turn up at Holytown and jump on the first train that is going to Glasgow, unaware that it is going via a circuitous route and considering themselves to be valid.
The point I'm making is that the information presented to anyone using these tickets is ambiguous at best in several places. As has been said below the most favourable to the customer interpretation should apply , and we know that generally Scotrail are quite sensible about validities. This all could be easily fixed by providing a detailed map with all the intermediate lines in it, or changing the wording to say that only the lines shown are valid (obviously the former being preferable). So the mystery is why the ambiguity is there in the first place..or we wouldn't be debating this!

As you have noticed there are other alternative routes and the answer to all of these is also no, not permitted
You are only permitted to travel on services passing through those stations AND that serve the destinations
Glasgow - Cumbernauld
Glasgow - Falkirk Grahamston
Glasgow - Alloa
Glasgow - Stirling (any service)
Glasgow Central - Shotts - Edinburgh

I can't find any service that would be valid from Glasgow Central LL, with this ticket
It could be argued that you could travel from Glasgow Central LL to Uddingston, and then board the next Edinburgh via Shotts service, again it is not permitted but I doubt any action would be taken providing it was explained between what points you were travelling
The same parallel exists with Glasgow QS LL and Springburn, not permitted but I doubt any action would be taken

I know some people have tried using a Central Scotland Rover to travel between Glasgow Central LL and Glasgow QS LL, changing at Partick
That really is pushing it!

I agree with you, and struggle to understand how rail-britain can say it is "clear" that this is not allowed. I'm hoping that CarterUSM and/or reb0118 can reply to this topic giving their views.

Details are in the leaflet available at ScotRail stations (ironically adds a third map to this!)
The leaflet lists the routes on which the ticket is not valid (ie High Street, Motherwell, Carstairs, etc) plus it is only valid on ScotRail services
Also, the matter has been discussed locally with management to confirm

I think the fact that there are 3 maps availiable makes it pretty unclear. I would also be inclined to turn a blind-ish eye to instances of being off route in the examples quoted above with friendly advice offered. Whilst I get asked for them semi-regularly, I don't actually see many compared to ALR's, or even the rovers that go as far north as Dumfries (North West)? On another note, I don't consider commercial training for newer staff that great anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if many folk didn't even recognise it!Ticket examiner handbooks don't get issued anymore either, which is a bit of a shame considering the routing guide is contained within it.

I had a former colleague recently join First ScotRail as a part time Ticket Examiner
They pretty much agreed that providing the ticket presented by a passenger was valid on the route and day, they accepted it as valid
They are often presented with unusual tickets, but again all they look at is the date, and if valid they accept it as valid
What they have been trained to look for is passengers with no ticket or a ticket with an invalid date
Without access to the Rover codes they would have no idea...
We've been here before on that one!
