I hope someone high up has very deep pockets

If there's one thing the EOR is benefitting from apart from a willing band of volunteers, its someone up high with very deep pockets! The progress being made is astounding, transforming a basic single track line into a fully fledged heritage railway in just a few years. If a new station at Epping is possible im inclined to believe they'll manage it based on what they've achieved so far.

Laying Track and associated equipment is one thing, sustaining a proper service when its needed is another entirely.

Well the owner started a bus company from scratch and in just a few years part of it was sold for £13Million, he kept the heritage side for himself (Anyone heard of The London Bus Company? Same bloke owns the EOR) - Personally I think he is able to do the same again.

The location for a new station at Epping is apparently going to be by the road bridge: http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=51.694669&lon=0.115263&z=18.9&r=0&src=msl

Thanks for the positive comments, Chris125. It appears Great Eastern is about as anti-railway as the Association of Lorry Drivers:lol:

I don't know about the freedom passes, but I do know that this branch is like several to the south of London which were similarly bought inside zone 6 - Caterham, Tattenham Corner and Epsom Downs. The big anomaly occurs because Epsom is not within zone 6 even though it's a similar distance from London as Epsom Downs. I believe that the main sticking point is the effect on fares to stations further out, which explains why the north west tube lines have extra zones.

Last time I was at Epsom I asked a station official about this,he said Southern amd SWT couldn't reach agreement over Epsom becoming part of Z6.

I live in Epsom; it's apparently something to do with the revenue they would lose from people changing at Epsom to get from one line to the other. Being outside the zone means they can earn quite a lot on the extra tickets required to do this.

Having said that, I doubt it will make a huge difference because there aren't enough ticket checks on the actual platforms and trains to be sure of catching many of these - and there are lots of them - who take the chance and do it with a Travelcard anyway!

Regarding the EOR, just as an idea would there not also be a potential market for an improved service to North Weald at certain times (specifically airshow and possibly market) as part of a through fare from London, if TfL would be willing to give it a try?

I thought that the possibility of through trains as far as either a park & ride facility east of Epping or even all the way to Ongar was mooted as part of the Chelney line (Chelsea - Hackney) which will also take over the Epping route, seeing the tube trains being replaced with something larger (either full size mainline or a 'halfway' variant) and the line converted to 25kv ac.

Whether any of this is remotely likely however depends on how far pigs can fly!

If there's ever any money for this Chelney Line scheme to go beyond Epping (let alone get there), I think it should turn north east, burrow under Harlow and and finish up at Harlow Town (which is closer than Ongar, has a larger population and offers connections to further afield).
Pie in the sky at the moment!
