CCTV shows joyriders crashing stolen bus
A bus was written off by two drunk teenage joyriders who stole the vehicle, drove it nine miles and then crashed it.

A CCTV camera recorded Harry Atley, 19, and Thomas Bloomfield, 18, shouting and swearing as they drove it from Tetbury in Gloucestershire to Malmesbury in Wiltshire, last November.

The pair were given suspended sentences and banned from driving for two years at Bristol Crown Court.

Two drunken teenagers wrote off a £75,000 bus when they crashed it after a dangerous nine-mile 'joyride' through the Cotswolds, a court heard.

After '14 minutes of madness' they lost control of the vehicle, owned by Pulham and Sons Coaches Ltd of Bourton on the Water and crashed it.

The 41-seater bus was written off and the company says the teenagers' actions have cost them £100,000 because of a big increase in premiums after their insurance claim.
As expected, not really an appropriate sentence, but about what you'd expect given the laws and legal system that exists in the UK.

It seems far too harsh on the bus company to be out of pocket by so much.

When will the culprits sue for the trauma caused them by the bus company's failure to stop them stealing the bus?

Do most buses have audio enabled CCTV these days? I think that is the first time I have actually seen CCTV with audio!

Sadly I suspect the chances of extracting £400 a month from them towards £10,000 will be hard work, so not much point in trying to go for anywhere near the actual £75,000 - £100,000 of damages...

Maybe if bus security and immobilisation was a bit more say harder to overcome, we wouldn't see half of the stolen bus stories.
