So today I was found out to have an invalid railcard for 7 months (I genuinely did not know, I have never had a rail card before, I know now I stupidly assumed I’d be noticed by TrainPal when it ended)
He didn’t fine me on the spot. He took me to a corner, body cam recorded our chat, asked me questions like where was I going, when did I know this card was invalid etc, we both signed the piece of paper to say he wrote what he wrote etc. I apologised profoundly and thanked him for just being kind about my mistake (he did talk to me very kindly)
My issue is. He said I should expect 2 letters. The first one about today’s ticket, the 2nd one about all the journeys I took whilst this card was invalid.
I’ve gone and checked. Since being invalid. I’ve taken 5 other journeys
All £15 at full price (local trips) I paid (11ish)
And today’s ticket £8 full price (I paid 5)
I keep seeing story’s online of people getting 1k+ fines through the letterbox. I’m terrified that’ll be me?!! Does anyone know what will likely come through in these letters? It was great western railway who I dealt with today. I know their policy says a penalty fee (£100) + the single fair price of journeys not paid properly, but I also see people online get no penalty fee, but I see so much conflicting info online. I’m worried the recording of me is for prosecution straight away but I just didn’t know
