Caught with a Short ticket

Hello,

Please I need some advice.

I was caught with a Chiltern short ticket today. ( I got a ticket from Wembley to Marylebone but entered the train down the line before Wembley).
I am an international student that was just trying to save a little.

I gave the official my correct Name, DOD and current address ( I do not have a permanent address at this moment)

After seeing online that the letter from Chiltern to explain my side of the event might take a couple of weeks or even months, I am worried about the possibility of missing it if I have left this current address by then.
(I recall the official did not collect my email address)

Is there anything I can do about this?

I have read that it’s best to corporate with them and pay the fees due so it doesn’t escalate into a court case.
That’s what I intend to do but I might be unable to do that if I miss the letter.

I’d appreciate ant response.

Where would you be moving to? Elsewhere in uk or back to your home abroad?

You can set up a Royal Mail postal redirect if you have not had a letter from the railway company before you move. They need a few days notice to set it up. See their website info.

But I suspect a redirection overseas is rather costly and may be less reliable but that may depend on the post service in the country concerned.

Yes, you should set it up for a period that you think is desirable. It's not unaffordable if it's a UK inland redirect. It does help avoid missing important post from organisations you forget to advise of a change of address.
How to do it is on Royal Mail website here

Note they need a few days ahead of your desired start date to get it up and running so make sure you plan that accordingly - it's explained on the site - ie you may want to it to commence a day / a few days before you actually move.

You can check it is working by posting yourself a letter / post card etc 2nd class to the old address and see if it turns up correctly at the new one

It is also worth noting that in addition to mail redirection, Royal Mail also have a list of organisations they advise of your change of address (read the small print in their terms of service) and there is no way to opt out of which agencies they notify. I have decided NOT to avail myself of their ‘service’ preferring to rely on a friend at the old address doing the redirect for me.

Somewhat off topic, but my wife has just received a letter from a charity telling her that they have obtained her address from the Royal Mail redirection service. We moved six years ago. Who knew?
