Catering on INTERCITY Railtours

Is the catering on the INTERCITY rail tours as limited as the website buffet menu suggests?

Just bacon and sausage sandwiches? Or are there cold sandwiches.etc too? Can you only buy quarter bottles of wine, not full sized bottles. Just wondering how much packed lunch to take!

Is it counter or trolley service?

The menu lists "sandwiches - £3.50" under "Confectionery and Snacks". Though the fillings aren't specified.

It’s counter service and yes it is quite limited.

I advise stocking up.

While you are correct, it is important to point out that they are quite a new operator and still finding their feet. There could well be more to come from them in the future.

Any ability to serve more than a simple buffet service is somewhat hamstrung by the fact that they have former Anglia buffets rather than kitchen cars. I imagine that taking these on enabled a quicker entry to the market than waiting for a proper kitchen car to be brought up to the required standards.

Considering these are a division of LSL, who have been operating The Statesman, Midland Pullman and Saphos with some considerable effort in their onboard catering (dining), I can’t really buy the “new operator finding their feet” stuff I’m afraid. The LSL ‘Intercity’ promotional video made me raise a smile earlier too - a lot of bluff about First Class service at an affordable price, but considering they use the rather limited in size TSOB’s from Greater Anglia, they either don’t intend to increase their offering or can’t increase it. If only they hadn’t scrapped a full size RFM last year (10224)…
