What is the main stock for services to Caterham? Is it 377s or 455/456s?

I did it a few weeks back and got a 455 there and 2x456 back...

When I used to commute in that area, the Caterham and Tattenham Corner branches always used suburban stock, which at the time was 4 EPBs and then later 455's.

I have seen 377s on Caterham services, but I think 45xs are more common.

Neither would surprise me, but generally 455/456s are indeed more common, particularly at peak times. What everyone else said.

Seeing them when passing Purley on Redhill stoppers, quite often it is mostly 455 and 456's with the odd 377 at peak. From observations the all stations trains seem to be the reserve of the 455/6 combinations and the trains that go fast from Purley tend to be 377's

One 455 sleeps most nights in platform 4 at Redhill as well.

Kind of, but the fasts only exist in the peaks, and these can be either class, although normally a 377 if splitting with a Tattenham Corner portion. Off peak it can be either.

One of the evening fasts (1739 Victoria - Caterham/Tattenham Corner) ceased to be 377 operated from the timetable change. Now booked 455+456x2. 319's were also a regular on the branch before going to FCC.

1749 from London Bridge to Caterham/Tattenham Corner, is still booked for two 377s, dividing at Purley. The train is run fast from London Bridge to Norwood Junction, then all stations to Purley, portion detached for Tattenham, then onwards to Caterham!

I do prefer 377s. Whenever I'm on the Brighton-Bedford route I do tend to make sure I catch a 377-operated service.

They tend to get a bit boring for me, if I decide to go to anywhere with Southern then it will be a 377 from Southampton, I like to mix it up a little when I can
