Castle Cary to Hayle and return to Paddington

[MTN]

I have 2 adults and 2 children staying who will need to travel from Castle Cary to Hayle on Thursday, returning from there to Paddington on Saturday.

The cheapest fares I have found so far are:

Single CLC to TVP (Tiverton Parkway) £38.90 for all
Freedom of Devon and Cornwall 3 in 7 £46 per adult and £23 per child
Single TVP to PAD £116.85 for all

Total £293.75

Also has the advntage that they can travel around Cornwall while they are there.

Any better deals / fares available? Your help would be appreciated.

A Family & Friends Railcard will save you money. The cost for 1 year is £30, and will give you 34% off adult and 60% off child fares. A 3 year version is available for £70.

Assuming you don't want to book in advance and travel on specified trains:

Offpeak Return CLC to TVP out Thu back Sat is £37.40 for all
Freedom of Devon and Cornwall 3 in 7 £46 per adult and £23 per child
Super Offpeak Single TVP to PAD is £80.10 for all

Total £255.50 + £30 F&F railcard = £285.50

If you are prepared to book in advance and travel on specified trains, then subject to availability:

Advance Single CLC to TVP is £21.90 for all
Freedom of Devon and Cornwall 3 in 7 £46 per adult and £23 per child
Advance Single TVP to PAD is £32.30 for all

Total = £192.20 + F&F railcard = £222.20

If you decide you do not need the flexibility of travelling around in Cornwall, then the following applies:

Offpeak Return CLC to HYL out Thu back Sat is £116.40 for all
Super Offpeak Single CLC to PAD is £67 for all

Total = £183.40 + F&F railcard = £213.40

If you are prepared to book in advance and travel on specified trains, then subject to availability:

Advance Single CLC to HYL is £28.10 for all

Advance Single HYL to PAD is £39.90 for all

Total = £68.00 + F&F railcard = £98.00
