When I was recently on a train arriving at Gatwick Airport I noticed on a neighbouring platform the overhead screen showed a diagram of the train, I think to display the carriage numbers or some other info. The screens on board trains often have colour-coded carriage loading information so you can see which carriages are most crowded and vice versa. Would it be possible to merge the two and have carriage loading information displayed in a similar way on the overhead screens at platforms when a scheduled train is approaching? If so, it might provide some incentive for passengers to aim to board the train at carriages which are less crowded and thus ultimately distribute the load alone the train more evenly. I have seen comments on here before that passengers sometimes try to squeeze onto some very crowded carriages when others have more space.
