From the Carno Place Plan in 2024:
In 2018 the Welsh Government introduced a new 3 stage appraisal process for new stations. Each proposed new station had to be successfully evaluated against a number of criteria before moving on to the next stage. Carno station reached the final stage - stage 3 - in 2019 and an application for funding was made to the UK government in June 2020. This was eventually refused due to the high cost estimate by the Welsh Government. CSAG continues Carno Place Plan Page 4 of 8 to actively engage with the Welsh Government to reduce the cost estimate so that any future application for funding will be successful

You would struggle to timetable it anyway, as the line is fixed on passing at the loops.

I’m not surprised there’s a poor business case for re-opening this. The village itself is smaller than Caersws, and Caersws is reasonably close by for mid-Wales standards.
