The new shed for WCRC at Upperby is coming along nicely and the sidings alongside are looking smart, today.
Edit: I’ve done a bit more digging and found from a couple of newspaper articles that the planning application was granted to Locomotive Storage Limited (not West Coast Railway Company as I’d been informed some months back). The planning portal for Carlisle is a bit flaky today, so the references are to the News and Star articles:
Locomotive Storage is hoping to build a 140m long canopy building at the former 12B Carriage Shed site at Carlisle Diesel Depot in Upperby.

According to a planning statement the proposed development seeks to provide essential covered storage for a collection of historic steam locomotives and heritage rolling stock, enabling their preservation and protection in a manner that is sensitive to the site’s longstanding railway heritage...

And: https://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/...oric-steam-locomotive-depot-upperby-approved/ which detail that the shed will be built on the site of the old one and will be partially open-sided to protect historic locomotives from the elements. The building will be 140 metres long, steel framed with a floor area of around 3,745 square metres and a ridge height of 7.3 metres.

The new shed for WCRC at Upperby
Thanks for sharing. A welcome return. Perhaps a pity the old brick shed was demolished some time back; I guess it would have been unsafe and a trespass/vandalism threat.
I wonder how many of the 4 covered roads will have their lengthy pits emptied of the demolition rubble and returned to full access.

I've passed that way a few times recently so always make a point of looking over at it through the window to see how progress is getting on. It's clearly visible from passing WCML trains. It is a shame that the old shed was demolished, but I guess it gives them an opportunity to start from scratch. There's a fair bit of rolling stock they've got at Upperby now. There seem to be more coaches there each time I go past.
