carlisle gobowen splits?

One adult, no railcard, travel to Gobowen Sunday 24 November lunchtimeish and return to Carlisle Wednesday 27 November late afternoon.

with routes through Warrington, Chester or Shrewsbury there should be some scope for splits I think. The quoted return is £78. Ive got this down, but only to £72. Any improvement? Thanks to all.

The cheapest linear split is likely to be:

• Carlisle - Oxenholme
• Oxenholme - Burscough Jn
• Burscough Jn - Gobowen

You must go via, and the train must call, at both stations.
The saving is a further £20ish.

Freedom of North West 4-in-8 rail rover plus a return Chester to Gobowen, total £75. Valid via Liverpool or Warrington to Chester or Shotton, but not via Crewe.

ETA: Misread brfares, only a day return is available from Chester to Gobowen. That means you'd need two singles, taking the price to £82.

Depends if you'd use the other two days of the rail rover.

There's still a handful of advances available for Carlisle Preston, e.g.
Outward - depart CAR 13:29 = £14 (TPE) or 12:49 / 12:53 are each £15 with virgin.

Return - leave Preston at 17:41 or 19:15, both have Virgin advances at £8.50

So with advances - Carlisle/Preston = £22.50, Preston/Gobowen SVR = £30.50, total £53

thank you all. I had the oxenholme split and had thought, like Yorkie, of going through ormskirk (which doesn't work on sundays).

But the preston split and svr to gobowen is really helpful because it allows any route. thanks again.
