Can anyone tell me what time of day would be best for frequency of workings passing through Carlisle Station and which platform would be the best to photograph them. Thanks in advance!

Platform 3 (south end) seems to be the favourite for taking photos and spotting in general.
There is usually a small group of enthusiast there.
The station staff are also very enthusiast friendly.
It is also easy to get to platform 1 which are adjacent to the station sidings
Also on platform 1 is a toilet which also has a lovely heated radiator to warm up on on a cold day.
As far as time of day is concerned almost any is good.
Assuming you are there midweek, there is a regular flow of freight.
Freightmaster publish a almost daily updated table of all freight through the station, but you do have to be a subscriber, but well worth it.
Mainly class 66's, but 70's,57's,20's,60's,92's & 37's, can all be seen.
A class 86, & 87 have been resident in the sidings for some time now.
Passenger trains again are regular all day, Pendolinos, voyagers, and a wide variety of units including 185's. Late in the afternoon there is the mail train.

The 86 & 87 are not going to be there for long, are they even still there?
Agree with the above about the south end, although ScotRail 156s do come in and depart from the top.
