On Thursday I'm going down to Torquay for the day to visit my parents. However I've just remembered the Whiteball Tunnel closure and the replacement buses between Taunton and Exeter.

I don't particularly want to faff around with replacement buses, but even so the fare is still pretty expensive regardless, so I looked at Cardiff to Bristol by train, then Bristol to Exeter Sowton P&R on the Falcon, and then Digby & Sowton to Torquay by train, which is about £33 return (current fare from Cardiff to Torquay is £42), but even then I'd still need to get from Temple Meads to Bond Street for the Falcon in Bristol.

I was considering Cardiff to Salisbury, Salisbury to Exeter and Exeter to Torquay, all by rail and the timings of which work well, but that's even more expensive.

Just wondered if anyone else had any suggestions. I can't even go down the night before because I work in Starbucks and I don't finish until 22.30 on the Wednesday!

Thanks in advance!

If you split at Filton Abbey Wood and Honiton, the cheapest I can find is £54, using off peak day returns.
With an itinerary of Cardiff - Salisbury - Exeter - Newton Abbott - Torquay

I know!
Personally I'd just brave the XC RRB

Yes, I may well do to be honest.

Current prices from Cardiff to Torquay is £42. Splitting tickets at Bristol takes it to £39 (£3 is better than nothing).

Any cheaper options again before I purchase my tickets?
