Cardiff to Manchester flying

Is it possible to fly from Cardiff to Manchester at all? I've had a look but don't think there is.

There used to be flights with Air Wales(?) but the route and airline are both long gone.

I guess the closest flights would be Eastern Airways's Cardiff - Newcastle - Aberdeen service or the WAG flights Cardiff - Anglesey/RAF Valley operated by Citywing

Ah never mind. I wouldn't mind doing Cardiff to Newcastle though

However, of course you could travel via somewhere else, buying two tickets if necessary.

For example you could fly to Belfast City and then from there to Manchester.

Obviously you have to take the risk of a missed connection and having to pay out of your own pocket for another ticket.

In the days of 1p Ryanair fares, you could travel between 2 UK Ryanair served airports via somewhere in Europe for 2p. Nowadays you could still do that for around £50 or maybe less.

There used to be a scheduled Cardiff to Bristol Flight 2 or 3 times per week with Helvectic Airlines on a Fokker 100. You couldn't book the Cardiff Bristol leg though as it was a Cardiff-Bristol-Zurich flight. But they dropped the Cardiff leg as loadings were very poor (one report I saw mentioned 7 Cardiff passengers with many more boarding at Bristol)

Are you ristricting yourself to the UK? Loads of places (even from Cardiff) you can fly to, most of which are more interestig than Manchester.

Direct flights to Edinburgh from Cardiff - ticket prices start at about £35 each way.

Much nicer place to visit, much cheaper than the train (not sure how cheaply you could do advances, but I can't see it being less than that) and it sure beats 6½ hrs on a Voyager*.

* I'll admit a direct Voyager from Bristol Parkway to Edinburgh via Newcastle is a stupid route (if valid on an anytime/off-peak ticket) and there are quicker, comfier ways. But I wanted a stupid figure to quote anyway.
