Gonna be my first time on the underground tomorrow.. Need to get from Paddington to Euston, is this simple??

Second question is what's the cheapest way to do the journey (Cardiff to Hemel)? I have a TOC card as I'm a railway employee but not for fgw..

Cheers :)

Simplest route is on the Circle or Hammersmith and City line to Euston Square followed by a short walk to Euston.

It's almost literally across the road, and very hard to get lost!

Otherwise, take the Bakerloo line to Oxford Circus and then the Victoria line - both lines are fast and the interchange is quite easy.

Regarding the journey, when are you travelling? What time of day? Single or return? How many passengers etc.
Also, is price the only factor, or do you still want to take the fast trains?

By TOC card, do you mean TOCNE (Priv)?

Euston Square-Euston is easy enough, left out of Square station, and through the gardens you see on the left after the first crossroads. It's a 5 minutes walk absolute maximum. If you're adamant you don't want to walk, I think the best alternative would be Bakerloo line S/B to Oxford Circus, Victoria line N/B to Euston. To be fair there wouldn't be a huge time difference I'd say, though I can't recall what the interchange is like at Oxford Circus.

I think it would take you longer to do the interchange at Oxford Circus that it would take you to do the walk from Euston Square to Euston'.

I have no sense of direction, and even I found it impossible to get lost from Euston Square to Euston. You just follow the footpath alongside the really big road. As long as you walk past a Boris Bike Rack on your way, you're golden.

Or do the awful thing that's absolutely abhorred on this forum and take a bus...it's only one stop and impossible to get lost as the 10 or so routes all stop in the station forecourt.

Which TOC do you work for?
If Arriva Trains Wales, you get free travel on Cross Country as well.

Cardiff Central to Birmingham New Street, and then London Midland from there to Hemel.
Should take about an hour longer than going the 'obvious' route via London.
Birmingham to Hemel is £7.75 (single)/£13.25 (return), route London Midland Only.

Example timing:

Cardiff C dep 07:45
Birmingham NS arr 09:45
Birmingham NS dep 10:14
Bletchley arr 11:45
Bletchley dep 11:52
Hemel arr 12:19
