Morning all, the top & tail 67s running from Cardiff to Paignton are these daily at the same time. I’m on our hol’s near Teignmouth & saw this a mile going towards Newton Abbot just after 11am think this was the 10.57am stopping service to Paignton !, also how many times does this make the journey ?. Makes me wonder why they don’t run this weekends.

It's a weekday only thing. It runs to cover the hole that was left when the dimwitted little munchkins of DaFT told SWT that they weren't going to be allowed to run West of Exeter.

FGW stepped into the breach by extending a Cardiff - Taunton service to Paignton.
It doesn't run at weekends, as there are alternative services.

One train to replace a good dozen that swt puton.

It wasan excellent service. I could get on at Yeovil/crewkerneand travel there/back direct to dawlish, paignton, plymouth.

Who ever thought of getting rid of swt, westof exeter. They offered the best, most reliable service with good 159trains.

Now their hourly clockwork timetable is always going wrong. They dont have enough track space for any errors in the timetable.

Why dont they use CHARD loop any more to strengthen service delays, rather than being held on train at axminster or honiton loop.

I also hear no more steam west of yeovil, because of this. Cant they use Chard loop??

AFAIK, Chard loop is still available for traffic. It's just I suspect that the trains are now booked to pass Axminster or Yeovil; And signallers being what they are nowadays (wimps) won't do regulation.

i heard they're gonna reopen Chard Station and double the track all the way to axminster

They'd have a job. SCC sold the site to a developer, I've not heard anything about a further extension of the Axminster loop towards Chard, there's a possibility that there's a new station to be built in Devon (Cranbrook), this may require a modification to the layout.

Yes there are plans for a station at Cranbrook, Planning permission is there, funding and road access are not - there are a few road schemes in the area that need to be built first for both construction and future vehicle access - eg the Clyst Honiton link from the new A30 to the old and mods to J29 of the M5, part of the planning consent required a station.

As part of the station works a new passing loop will be built to allow for a half hourly service between Exeter and Honiton (1 fast London, 1 all stops Honiton), this was intended to be ready for last year but with Cranbrook on hold, Nitwit Rail concentrated on Axminster. This also accounts for at least 1 of SWTs spare 158 collection.
