Um. Yeah it could be good. It'd be nice to have something like that in Cardiff.

From the looks the company wants to trial it in Cardiff before the bigger rollout at Mecca.

Wasn't there talk of an Ultra Personal Rapid Transit system in Cardiff?

I doubt it will ever happen! <D

Speaking of monorails - the suspended monorail system in Wuppertal in Germany has to be seen at least once! It opened in 1901, proves advancements in technology are not always everything

This cardiff proposal company is basically openly copying the exact Wuppertal technology (well you can say its time proven :P ) and adding in modern materials.

There's been a couple of serious accidents but overall it is highly successful technology. Just too expensive nowadays, trams and undergrounds are the preferred options.

Interestingly that Simpsons episode was based on fact, there was a rash of high cost poorly built metros in the US that often ended up being white elephants.

A monorail down Dumballs road? Why? Some kind of metro system in Cardiff would be great but I wouldn't start there.

An utterly pointless idea in my opinion. A tram system would be far more practical and useful.

Assuming what is stated is true, the WDA might like to consider more suitable opportunities such as congested corridors through built-up areas. I suggest Cardiff has a few of these which would be far more suitable and viable.

That said, a little clarity on what makes the thing move would help. I can't find any reference on the company website as to what powers it nor how power is transmitted to the vehichle, let alone any form of equipment in the unit.

I raise this because I do believe the generic technology has opportunities.

A net search of his name brings up other info.

Unless it's being built for free, I don't really understand the point of it. There's already a train from Queen Street every 10 minutes or so, along with the Bay Car bus service. You can cycle it in a little over 5 minutes using the Cardiff version of the Boris Bike scheme. Another vanity project from the WAG.

It is being built for free, the company wants to trial its technology before rolling it out big style in its Mecca contract (where it would have millions of users).
