Cardiff Central & The Speedway Grand Prix

Hi. I'm heading to Cardiff next month for the speedway Grand Prix at the Millennium stadium.

Does anyone know what the queuing system for Cardiff Central is going to be like, and what is the likelihood of any extra trains (or bigger formations).

Am intending to travel to Swansea from Cardiff (usually I stop in Cardiff for it but Swansea was £180 cheaper!)

Also, what traction is likely to be used on the services between Swansea and Cardiff? (Hoping it's anything but 14x or 150/153 units - I have trouble with the facilities on them, being slightly more well built!)

Ask again nearer the event. The plan is not usually finalised until the week of the event

There appear to be a few extra services to Newport, but that's about it.

Queueing system will all depend on how many people actually travel by train. At its worse the queue probably reaches the stadium.

They do have a well organised queuing system after the Speedway GP, but nothing to worry about. Average crowds are around 40,000 so they can cope fairly well as a relatively small proportion come by train. If you are staying in Swansea (good idea to avoid the silly hotel prices in Cardiff) then how about aiming for the 20.50 back to Swansea which comes from Paddington if you want to avoid DMUs.

The event starts at 17.00 so not sure why you would have to leave early. I’ve caught the 20.26 back to London before, and that was in the days when the running of the meeting was a lot less slick than it is now.

Be prepared to be held outside the station until your train is due, which is OK unless it is raining. They do hand out plastic shower macs but better to have your own waterproof coat if needed.
