The National Assembly for Wales' Enterprise & Business Comittee has today taken evidence as part of their enquiry into transport arrangements in the city centre following the Rugby World Cup.

The agenda and written evidence from ATW, FGW, Cardiff Bus, South Wales Police and England 2015 is here: http://www.senedd.assembly.wales/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=228&MId=3316

A written transcript of the meeting will be published in a few days time. Video footage of the meeting is here: http://senedd.tv/Meeting/Archive/175e9c4e-36dc-4a95-8a25-919090f3b3b3?autostart=True

The meeting has attracted a fair bit of coverage locally. The committee will publish recommendations based on today in due course which the Welsh Government will need to respond to.

Haven't had time to go through it and digest yet, but thought others would like to see this.

Transport arrangements in Cardiff for big events are always an embarrassment, both for road and rail. Anyone remember which rugby game the crowd were told they had to leave immediately after the final whistle, as any time taken celebrating a win would mean you missed the train?

It's been dismal since the days when the FA Cup Final was played in Cardiff while Wembley was re-built, which you think would be plenty of time to learn? It's such a shame, as Cardiff is a lovely city, yet I'm sure there are thousands of Brits & foreigners who will never return because of a previous bad experience.

Remember a few years ago when a Wales-England match was an evening kick off?
The answer to avoiding overcrowding on the late night trains back to Bristol was to cancel them all.

Some interesting points in it.

Welsh Government should work with Network Rail and Department
for Transport to consider how the network can be upgraded to
ensure that non-event passenger services and freight can be
accommodated during stadium events. We believe this could be
considered during delivery of electrification programmes and
might include use of Cardiff Queen Street Station.

Perhaps the WAG trying to force its way into the electrification programmes again? The last electrification announcement they made was such a success

Part of the problem surely is that tv money outweighs the interests of the fans (and the wider community)?

To be fair, as noted in the report, the passenger flows for the world cup were very different to events the Stadium holds on a more regular basis.
From my own experience, there were more issues getting to Cardiff before the games than getting from Cardiff afterwards!

That was the really the problem - the different passenger flows, and initially the railway planners didn't seem to have grasped that fully in preparing for the event.

After the initial games they did get to grips with it and the services worked far better.
