So this may be 'local interest' only...

A private company opened a new car park at PBO, but they charged exactly the same as the existing car parks so take-up was negligible.

A few weeks Britannia took over, and undercut the railway car parks on daily charges and season tickets by a fair whack.

Today, this car parks exit to PBO station is fenced off, with a notice saying "ECML" has demanded that the exit be closed. AFAIK, peeps using this car park now have a near 250m extra walk to get to the station.

All most peculiar...

Why peculiar? All rather predictable. Why would potentilal car users use the new privately operated car park if charging the same, and if under cutting one wouldnt expect East Coast to stand by; of course East Coast will do what ever to protect its parking revenue.

Given the extortionate charges charged for many station car parks I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot more competition over station car parks (where the land and planning permission can be acquired). Even the public sector are getting involved; South Gloucestershire council are opening a car park near Bristol Parkway station soon which they advertised would be cheaper than FGW's charges!

GOOD!

The parking charges on station car parks are rediculous!

And where it is free, for example, Bolton, Lostock or Horwich, only Lostock ever has any spaces after 7:30am and you're lucky to get one, and because theres no revenue, they won't build bigger car parks. If somone happened to build a rather large car park next to Horwich Parkway for P+R useage, (I'm looking at you GMPTE or whatever the hell you're called now). Anyway, before I decend into another where is the intergrated in our intergrated transport rant, WE NEED MORE PARKING...
